Lavarand

I do not remember if we read about Lava lamps in this class or another, but they are relevant to the idea of true random generation. Golan Levin spoke about using more advanced algorithms to create random numbers, but these two mathmaticians used lava lamps instead:

It was interesting that in Floccugraph they use the darkness of the face for random force generation.

Hi, Came across your Blog by accident and noticed that you were interested in Lava lamps.

Do you know the story of the guy who invented Lava Lamps?
His name was Craven Walker. He became sort of famous in the early sixties when he made a short movie called "Travelling Light." It told the story of a young girl who became involved in the nudist club movement in England. It caused a bit of a stir at the time because it was one of the first movies to show full nudity.
Craven also invented the Lava lamp. I wouldn't say that he became rich beyond his wildest dreams from the profits, but it did help him to focus his attention on his real interests....Nudism and Nudist Clubs.
He bought a piece of land near Bournmouth in England and set up the Bournmouth and District open air club.
My wife and I visited it some years ago....and it had the finest collection of Lava Lamps that you have ever seen.

Phil
